I am going to be retiring in the next 6 to 12 months and I was thinking to get a Golf R to be my daily driver. I am thinking on getting one before the bio metric reading cars come out.

For those that have owned a Golf R or several years, I wanted feedback if this is a car that will last me say 10 plus years without having to spend a fortune replacing engines or transmissions.

Your feedback on your experience is appreciated. I took a test drive on a GTI and I liked it but I want the Golf R because I would need a bit more performance.

I currently owned a Corvette C7 and a Ford Mustang GT. I may have to sell one of those but that is not here or there yet.

I do not drive a lot, putting in say over 8k miles per year is not likely but cars have issues even when they sit there.

Please elaborate on "I currently owned a ...". Do you (currently) own those or do you not (owned) anymore?
Regarding long term reliability, with proper maintenance and owner care you never need to replace engines or transmissions.

i am new here i currently own a 10 speed performance package mustang gt 2018 i bought it new it has 5600 miles on it i absolutley love the car its the fastest NA Stock car i ever owned 11.77 120mph ..and i have had 50+ new cars i also have a 24 performance 3 tesla and its very impressive car in many ways .. I just bought my second 2026 golf r my first one in march was white with black wheels and leather my second one is black with silver machine wheels and leather ...my first one was purchased back by dealer as it had some weird electrical issues they could not pin down without having the car longer than i could live with .The dealer did not want me to lemon law the car so they unwound my deal ..gave me back all my money and i went out car shopped and could not find something i liked better for the money ...so i got another Golf R i obviously love this platform its my second generation of R ownership my first was 2019 ...had a few GTI's before too.....in 2025 i bought a 25 Type R civic had it 2 months before selling it back to dealer ... the interior was very nice it shifted and handled very good and was good looking but it rode like a bag of smashed assholes its first gear was too short and useless ,traction first two gears sucked front wheel drive was a no can do after i struggled to put down power ...also road noise was totally unacceptable ...Elantra N was better car with dsg for money but driver seat was a dealbreaker and audi rs3 i could not justify 1100 a month with no hatch and 40 horse more ...
