Declaring future modifications - insurance

Has anyone had any experience of declaring future modifications on their car insurance? I'm looking at getting an S3 and plan on a few minor mods here and there. If I declared these as and when they're fitted, there is normally a fee for amending my policy mid-term. Whereas, if I declared everything right away (despite the mods not being fitted yet) I would just pay one price in one go.

seems like your from the UK as im from the USA. we here most of the time will automatically get covered with modifications without declarations. as long as the items are on the car at the time of the accident.
